The Doctoral School in Life and Health Sciences was established in 2011 as an effect of the reorganization of doctoral activities within University of Torino.
It includes eight PhD Programmes, e.i: Medical Physiopathology, Experimental Medicine and Therapy, Molecular Medicine, Neuroscience, Biomedical Sciences and Oncology, Veterinary Sciences for Animal Health and Food Safety, Complex Systems for Life Sciences, Applied Technologies in Surgical Sciences.
Each PhD program aims to provide students with both strong theorical and practical education. Even the PhD programmes owning a major insight into base research never set aside a clinical overview, creating thus a strongly interdisciplinary approach to research. During their doctoral pathway, our PhD students acquire the ability to plan and develop a research project and to write scientific articles in full autonomy.
Doctoral activities are carried out throughout several University Departments, belonging both to University of Torino and to other Universities, and some of them involve prestigious hospitals such as San Giovanni Battista di Torino, Ospedale Infantile Regina Margherita Sant'Anna, San Luigi Gonzaga di Orbassano, Ospedale Amedeo di Savoia, Istituto di Ricerca e cura del Cancro that are regional reference centres for several diseases, and are medical excellence centres with high reputation across the Country. Also involved are the educational hospital and the sanitary kennel of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
Technological infrastructures and up to date equipment available at these Departments, along with the possibility to interface patients, both humans and animals, provide an excellent scientific environment for PhD students to carry out top level research.
Several of our PhD Programmes participate in international projects such as Marie Curie Research Training Networks, and all of them participate to the project funded by Regione Piemonte “Alta Formazione” enabling both our students and our PhDs to attend highly specializing educational activities.
