"Origin and development of astroglial heterogeneity in the cerebellum"

Despite the common view of astrocytes as a fairly homogeneous population, a growing body of evidence supports their morphological, molecular and functional heterogeneity across the developing and adult central nervous system (CNS). Nevertheless, the processes that define the fate potentials of astroglial progenitors are still not clear and need to be further examined.  Aiming at elucidating the mechanisms underlying astroglial development, we address this issue in the cerebellum, which comprises a variety of morphologically distinct astroglial phenotypes distributed in all cerebellar layers and  therefore represents a good model to address the development of astrocytic heterogeneity.
